A Robsjohn Gibbings King Size Headboard that is Unfortunately Painted Black

Today, against my better judgment, I bought this here king size headboard, designed by the one and only T.H. Robsjohn Gibbings for Widdicomb. It's really a beautiful thing, but I'm absolutely dreading the stripping and refinishing of it. Maybe it won't be as bad as I think, but when does that ever happen? We're currently working on a Gibbings desk that has proven to be an absolute NIGHTMARE, so I'm not really excited about the prospect of redoing this one. At least it was cheap.

Wow, thank you so much for commenting on my blog, so I could find yours! You're exactly what I'm looking for :) The problem with my deco/regency table is that the table top is made of veneer, and it's literally falling apart, it looks awful. How do I fix it? Especially if I want to refinish it in a darker color?

I have another problem too (you're my expert now!). I just painted a buffet/side table from the 30s, and after I painted it the doors doesn't fit anymore. This whole thing is covered in veneer, and what I was thinking about doing, was sanding down the sides until i can close the door. I'm just not sure if it's possible without the veneer chipping of? (there's three layers, veneer, wood, veneer)

Thanks again, and I'm definitly adding you to my blog roll. Let me know if you need any pics!

And great headbord btw! Would love to see what you make out of it!

Without seeing a picture of the table top, it's hard to say. If I could see a pic of the table top, I could probably help you out a bit more! ;-)
As for your buffet problem, if you've already painted it, it doesn't really matter if you sand through the veneer, so go right ahead, just repaint it when you've got it to where the door will close again.
